"If we shadows have offended,
Think but this, and all is mended,
That you have but slumbered here
While these visions did appear.
And this weak and idle theme,
No more yielding but a dream...”
--Puck, “A Midsummer Night's Dream” (Shakespeare)

“Lately I became aware of the meaning of Quietude.
Day after day I stayed away from the multitude.
I cleaned my cottage and prepared it for the visit of a monk
Who came to me from the distant mountains.
He descended from the cloud-hidden peaks,
To see me in my thatched house.
Sitting in the grass we shared the resin of the pine.
Burning incense we read the sutras of the Tao.
When the day was over we lighted our lamp.
The temple bells announced the beginning of the evening.
Suddenly I realized the Quietude is indeed Joy,
And I felt that my life has abundant leisure.”

Human Beings and Their Circle of Compassion

“ A human being is part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest. A kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from the prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if mankind is to survive.”
--Albert Einstein

Interviewer: [regarding the internet] “Is this how you imagined it would be?”

William Gibson: “I didn't imagine that art girls in the midwest would be flashing their tits in cyberspace...but I'm glad they are!”
--William Gibson

“The internet is a global prosthetic of human consciousness.”

“The self that is speaking to you is not the self that writes the books. It is a collaborative effort with my unconscious.”
--William Gibson

“A hole opened up in consensus reality and we saw daylight...”
--Bruce Sterling speaking about William Gibson

Gibson: “We are accelerating constantly toward some post human null point and there are no maps for these territories.”

“I think the thing that I am most aware of is the extent to which people are unaware of the extent to which they are co-opted by their technology.”

On Humanity and the present age: Gibson: “I think there is a sense of loss and a sense of Christmas morning.”

“I think there are moments that are vertiginous, exciting, as we recognize the contemporary-- and it induces terror and ectasy and we retreat from it because we are more comfortable with an earlier version and it makes us feel more in control.”

“Truth is stranger than fiction and it keeps getting jacked up on an exponential basis.”

Interviewer: “What makes you most anxious?”

Gibson: “What makes me most anxious is the thought that I might not be able to be as honest with myself as I would like to be because more real is better.”

“The heart is the master and the head is the servant. When that isn't the case we're in deep deep trouble.”

On writing:

“I asked my professor, “How do fiction writers do this?” He responded: “They have rich inner lives.”

“I had to rediscover the mechanism of daydreaming as play.”

“The process of fantasy and anxiety is probably similar territory in the brain.”

“I labored for months on one sentence that never went anywhere.”

“We live in an incomprehensible present. I'm not even trying to explain the moment. I am trying to make the moment accessible.”

“I don't have a conscious creative process at all. I have become more aware that books happen because I write them. The actual creative process happens by putting one word after another. [books] emerge from this very analogue process of writing one word after another. If I am doing the job I am supposed to do I will not be in control of the narrative.”

“I make an effort to turn up and see if there is any incoming mail. Sometimes the process won't happen.”

“The books are written in collaboration with my unconscious and I don't have reliable access to my unconsciousness all the time. I have to wait for it to turn up sometimes.”

Interviewer: “What will become of us?”

“Acceptance of the impermanence of being and the imperfect nature of man...
acceptance that this is not a dress rehersal, acceptance that this is it, this is the deal, acceptance that this is your life.”

“Happiness is being in the moment. Not being in recollection, not being in anticipation. It takes practice. I don't think anyone achieves it with any constancy.”

--From the William Gibson Documentary, “No Maps for These Territories”

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear
is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness,
that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I
to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won't feel insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest
the glory of God that is within us.

It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people
permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.

Om Mani Padme Hum

OM--I invoke the path and experience of universality, so that

MANI--the jeweline luminosity of my immortal mind

Quantum limerick

There was once a man who said ‘God
Must think it exceedingly odd
If he finds that this tree
Continues to be When there’s no one about in the quad.’

And the reply:

Dear Sir, Your astonishment’s odd:
I am always about in the quad.
And that’s why the tree
Will continue to be,
Since observed by Yours faithfully, God.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
--Robert Frost

“Do you know what this is?”

“It is a bunch of keys.

And so I hold them up again, taking one key between my thumb and forefinger and showing it to you foremost. "Do you know what this is?"

“It is a key.”

“And this, and this?”

“They are all keys.”

“So it is with my practice. I am both one of the keys, and in unity with the ring of keys. When you see the ring, when you are in ring-mind, you do not see the keys hemselves. When you see the keys, when you are in key-mind, you see each key as a separate individual, with its own distinct identity.”

“To say there is only a ring is to speak dung. But to say that there are only keys is to close your mind to the existance of the whole.”

“The task is to hold ring-mind and key-mind together so that you see both the ring and the keys, and that the existence of one does not preclude the existence of the other. You can only do this if you learn to believe that there are no things, no keys, no ring, and that you see only what you choose to see in the cloud of matter-stuff that makes up the space between my fingers.”

“When you understand that your perceptions are choices and not realities, then you nderstand that you can see both at once, because unlike matter, thoughts can lay atop each other and occupy the same space. Your thoughts are not the matter, just as the matter is not your thoughts. This confusion is what stands between your view of the world and mine.”

“So, do you know what this is?”

“I do not, but I choose to call it a ring of keys.”
--Stonemirror

“The original abandonment, the original abuse, the original horror has some reason and meaning in it. It is not senseless. It is not like being run down like a dog on the highway. Its meaning most often is the development of tremendous strength, tremendous power, tremendous intuition. And I will tell you frankly that most of the people who are the greatest healers living on the face of this earth are unmothered children. One of the great gifts of the unmothered child--and also the healer, and the writer and the musician and all those in the arts who live so close with their ear against the heartbeat of the archetypal unconscious--one of their strongest aspects is intuition.”

“...examples of matter demonstrating a change-of-state may be found within the mineral kingdom. Many minerals exhibit varying external expressions, while retaining the chemical properities that allow them their identity by definition.

For example, the mineral fluorite is commonly found in large clusters of perfect cubes bordered upon its flat faces by other cubes. In the same deposit, fluorite may also be found expressing as the geometric form of the octahedron, an eight-sided crystal reminiscent of two four-side pyraminds mirroring one another with the widest portion, the base, the plane of reflection.

Chemically, both forms are identical, Caf2. Structurally, they express differently as a function of the processes that created them.”

“The Temple of Kom Ombo, the Temple of Light and Darkness, is the only Temple in Egypt dedicated to two deities simultaneously.

Looking into Kom Ombo from the main entrance the Temple is divided in half.

The right half is dedicated to the darkness represented by Sobek, the body of a man and the head of a crocodile. There are chambers in this portion of the complex that still house the mummified remains of crocodiles used in ceremony.

The left half dedicated to the light, symbolized as the human body hawk-headed image of Horus, the only son resulting from the union of Isis and Osiris.

In this Temple the initiate would be asked to find the balance between the polarities of darkness and light, and once knowing the balance, were asked to live that balance within their lives.”

“Forget not once this journey is begun the end is certain. Doubt along the way will come and go and go to come again. Yet is the ending sure. No one can fail to do what God appointed him to do. When you forget, remember that you walk with Him and with his Word upon your Heart. Who could despair when hope like this is his? Illusions of despair may seem to come, but learn how not to be deceived by them. Behind each one there is reality and there is God. Why would you wait for this and trade it for illusions, when His Love is but an instant farther on the road where all illusions end? The end is sure and guaranteed by God. Who stands before a lifeless image when a step away the Holy of the Holies opens up an ancient door that leads beyond the world.

You are a stranger here. But you belong to Him Who loves you as He loves Himself...

We have begun the journey. Long ago the end was written in the stars and set into the Heavens with a shining Ray that held it safe within eternity and through all time as well. And holds it still; unchanged, unchanging and unchangeable.”

“All matter whether dense physical or less dense, non physical, is essentially composed of the same fundamental building blocks of energy, light, expressed as hierarchical fields of interlocking vibration (frequency) and form (geometry). A portion of these fields is described in the science of physics as the electromagnetic spectrum and range from long waves vibrating very slowly at the bottom of the spectrum, to very short, rapid waves measured as fractions of a centimeter at the high end of the spectrum. Generally the electromagnetic spectrum today is not shown as vibrating much beyond values of 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (1022 cycles per second). During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, however, scientists such as John Keely routinely worked with vibrations ranging 20 to 30 octaves above those recognized in the open literature. Through working with these subtle vibrations Keely was able to develop technologies that were not well understood by his contemporaries, and are not even acknowledged today.”

“ In recent years, the Western concept of three dimensional matter as “solid” has gradually given way to the idea that the appearance of solid matter is an illusion. From this perspective, reality appears to be a series of rapid burst of energy pulsing at specific rates to produce predictable and consistent wave forms. It is these patterns of information that our brain “sees” and averages together to produce the perception f a solid, continuous event. The indigenous peoples of the world have told us for thousands of years that our world is the world of illusion; that all in this world is the product of our thought and as such is not real. Additionally, ancient texts remind us that our world is actually the world of a dream, and at this precise time in Earth and human history, the dream is about to change.”
